5 out of 5 stars Best carseat available   December 31, 2008
Shannon (Cincinnati, OH, USA)
We have owned this car seat for nearly five years and it is as good today as it was on day one. We have a Toyota minivan and there's only LATCH on one of the rear seats. This car seat installs easily on both the LATCH seat and the seat with the traditional seat belt. We also own an Evenflo Triumph (both were very highly rated in safety tests) and the Marathon is always our first choice if we have to move a car seat from one vehicle to the next. After all, if it's not installed properly it's not going to protect your child... and nobody likes messing with installing car seats. The Marathon is about as painless as it gets.

The Evenflo's straps are constantly twisted but the Marathon's always seem to be flat, just like they're supposed to be. It has little Velcro strips on the edges of the seat so when you're taking your child out you can stick the straps right there and not have to mess with trying to sort them out when you get back to the car.

It's easy to adjust the strap height when your child grows. My 6-yr-old daughter is at the highest setting and she's not even close to outgrowing this seat yet in terms of height or weight limitations.

The only issue we have had is that the belt tightening mechanism gets stuck occasionally. That's more likely because of spilled juice than a design flaw. :) We have the black and gray cover and it's really good at camouflaging any spills. It does get pretty hot in the summer, but we throw a light-colored towel over it if the van's going to be sitting out in the sun and that helps a lot. I wish there were a place to tuck the unused LATCH straps if you're using a traditional seat belt, but that's not enough for me to give this car seat any fewer than the 5 stars it deserves.

This was a GREAT investment. I wish we'd sucked it up and spent a little more money on another Marathon instead of going with an Evenflo the second time.

4 out of 5 stars Great seat but not for small car   December 29, 2008
Pumpkin's Momma (Scottsdale AZ)
First of all, this seat is very nice. It is super cozy and high quality craftmanship. My son is 8 months old and 22 lbs so he needed a rear facing seat but didn't want to buy a rear seat then seperate forward facing one in 4 months. It was easy to install for the most part and Britax has videos on their site which was nice.
Secondly, I have a 2003 2 door Accord. It is what it is and its the car I have. This car seat is big and I always keep the car seat in the middle back seat. I can see from my back window but if you plan to put this seat on either side of the back you may have issues sliding your seat back. For rear facing it is required to use the tether strap and anchor it on the floor somewhere that there will be a hook or seat bolted to the floor.
My car didnt have the floor hook so I used the strap and put it around the track of my driver side seat. My passenger front seat is not electric and that seat would not go back with that strap on. My driver side has electric seat so I can control how far back it goes. This is the only down fall, but it will be like this with any convertable seat.
Once my son can go forward facing this wont be an issue since I have 3 tether strap hooks on the back seat trunk area.
Before you buy, watch the video on Britax on how to install the strap. Otherwise, my son sleeps well in it and he is happy and content.

4 out of 5 stars Nice seat, difficult instructions   December 29, 2008
Brad
The seat itself is very nice and fits relatively easily in our vehicles despite its overall seat size. The seat straps are harder to twist than others we have tried, but they do still twist. The instruction manual is not easy to read or understand and adjusting the straps for different sizes was cumbersome. Overall the safety features are what was important to us, and the other items can be overcome.

4 out of 5 stars Good Seat, Great Service   December 24, 2008
MC (North Ridgeville, OH United States)
We've had this seat for two months now and love it. It is very easy to install into vehicles with the latch system and is equally easy to remove. We also like the pull strap at the front of the seat to tighten the shoulder harnesses after buckling in the little one. Our biggest complaint is that the shoulder straps seem to twist and tangle quite often, making it a challenge to buckle in a squirming child at times.

Overall, a great seat and great pricing & service from Amazon.

2 out of 5 stars Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat   December 22, 2008
C. Smyth (Seattle,WA)
The seat seemed quite comfortable for our 9 month old baby. But now at 10 and after another growth spurt I can't wait until we can turn the seat forward as her poor feet meet the back seat and she looks "squished". I preferred our previous car seat, the Graco SnugRide infant car seat for ease of installation and removal (a God send during travel). Which brings me to my biggest complaint; sub-par installation. It just doesn't seem as safe and secure as our previous seat. What's more, not everywhere we fly to has a car seat rental option with the car rental - more remote, smaller airports. The Britax seat is clumsy and frustrating to remove and the plastic seat belt security clips feel very cheap. It looks like a nice, comfortable seat but it just doesn't feel as safe, from a car safety viewpoint.
