LG Dim January 2, 2009 John Newdick (Danbury, CT) I bought this phone to replace a two year old phone a year ago. The Shine had half as many customizable options, the same quality camera, and ran much slower. Pros: Looks good, mirror screen is neat, microSD slot Cons: Buttons have long lag time; two of the soft keys are useless, taking you to your favorite options (which aren't yours, just what is pre-programmed - phone also has a "My Stuff" button which is programmable and redundant) or instant messenger (who uses that and does not even take you to the program, takes you to a choice between AIM, Microsoft, and Yahoo Messengers); the number of things that can be customized are very limited; the phone does not lock for three seconds after closing it, so when you slide it into your pocket, the over-sensitive joystick will undoubtedly be hit by something; The joystick is over-sensitive and lags in response time; the buttons often click but do not actually do anything without a firmer press; the music player has fewer features than a piece of printer paper; the headphone jack is the same as the power plug so you can't charge and listen simultaneously; as with many LG phone, the vibration is weak; and now, a year after purchase, the phone restarts every time I want to use the media player. Conclusion: Even if it's free with contract, opt for something else. This phone looks neat but has software that could have been written in a high school computer arts class.
It shines...And that's about all it does December 29, 2008 J. Goodwin 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had heard many good things about this phone, so as soon as I was eligible for an upgrade I immediately purchased it. And at first I was happy with it. It's very stylish, the call reception is good, and camera's photo quality is excellent for a camera phone's standards. Unfortunately, the cons of this phone out weigh the pros. The phone is much heavier then I'd prefer, and the phone's metal coating scratches extremely easily and seems fragile if dropped. The keypad is difficult to open and the keys are small and hard to press. The phone definitely shines...So much that the screen is nearly impossible to see in sunlight. The phone's ring tone volume was not loud enough for me and I missed several calls due to not hearing it. The phone's battery life is very poor and was already low just a few hours after purchasing the phone. But the feature of the LG Shine that most frustrated me was the phone's joystick controls. I found the joystick extremely frustrating and difficult to operate unless you have smaller than average fingers. I ended up returning it in favor of the LG VU. So all in all this phone is definitely eye pleasing, but to someone who cares more about function over form, skip the LG Shine.
Disappointment December 18, 2008 Maia M. Racheva (naples, FL) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Here I'll share my problem- I got LG Shine a month ago and it's been a week or so I'm trying to figure it out how to download pictures from phone to my computer. website doesn't help at all, neither owner's manual.I'm very disappointed, I lost time and energy to try to solve the problem and it's first and gonna be last LG product I spent money for.
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE October 7, 2008 J. Hogg (LA) This is an awful phone. My son has had it only 3 months and the screen has already cracked! Had we done our research we would have read many reviews of unhappy customers with the same exact problem. The company is aware of the problem and unwilling to help dissatisfied customers. It seems to frequently occur just a few months into ownership! If you were to look at my son's phone you would think it was brand new so it's not an issue of being dropped or mishandled - it's defective. He's 13 and paid for it with his own money and has taken really good care of it. Go online, do some research and see for yourself. Do not buy this phone!
Great Stylish Phone October 6, 2008 Ali G. Chaudhary (Jeddah Saudi Arabia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought the LG TU720 SHINE (the Canadian version of CU720) for my wife. Before I handed over the phone to her, I spent a few days exploring the phone capabilities. I came to the following: Pros: Great looking phone that is very attractive Great sound quality MicroSD card expandable memory Simple and easy to use Solid feel, particularly the slider snaps and doesn't feel flimsy Above average camera with simple editing tools Cons: Though this phone has a solid feel, it does need delicate handling. If you intend to use this phone for rough usage, it will easily catch scratches Average battery life Soft keys are not programmable and cannot be customized So far, unable to add my own *.mp3 ringtones Maximum ringer volume could be louder Overall, me and my wife both love this phone because it does what its supposed to do very well. However, a word of caution for those who intend to give their phones a rough ride, the LG TU720 won't be able to handle it.
